Melbourne New and Noteworthy Good Eats !

Melbourne is abuzz with New and Noteworthy Good Eats!

Sugar Shack Donuts

Sugar Shack Melbourne Strawberry Glazed Donut

Melbourne is a charming area and a favorite spot to spend time exploring locally owned restaurants and shops. The tree-lined streets and shopping arcades offer a variety of interesting and one of a kind boutiques and restaurants. You won’t find chain restaurants and big box type stores. Strolling the streets is like taking a step back in time. Established in the early 1800’s the community is nestled along Crane Creek and the Melbourne Harbor. Many of the original buildings are restored, repurposed, and house thriving local businesses.

Take a walking tour of the downtown historic.

Downtown Melbourne

Gateway to Historic Downtown

Historic Melbourne offers an opportunity to experience some of the best fresh local food. There are plenty of restaurants to satisfy even the pickiest pallets, and we’ve got a few new additions (favorites) we’d like to share. If you’re going to leave the beach and travel to the mainland, the destination ought to be:

  • Sugar Shack Melbourne: Donuts and coffee made the right way sourcing local fresh ingredients, hand rolling and cutting donuts in small batches. Too many yummy flavors to chose just one.
  • Roots Hashery & Boutique: Comfort food on steroids. Breakfast lunch and dinner and the perfect spot for brunch! Shop and dine satisfying two wonderful passions.
  • The Mansion (updated with a twist): New owner, new chef and new line up of wine and spirit tastings. The historic Strawberry Mansion is an iconic fixture just off main street. The view from the deck overlooking the Indian River will take your breath away.

Summer Travel equals happy moments.

Summer Travel R WE THERE YET MOM ?

Summer Travel Fun Begins with dreaming.

Get the whole family involved in planning a summer vacation and make it fun!

Well hello, February: one month closer to Summer!

Wow! January sure did enter and exit fast. Like most people I know you probably wish February would rush “old man” Winter right into Summer. Not so fast. February is a great time to lock down your summer travel plans before all the best locations are reserved. And it’s never too early day dreaming of your beach get away. Knowing you’ll have your toes in the sand and ocean to play in will make the cold winter temps a little bit easier to handle.

Summer Beach Ball

It’s time to plan summer vacation!

Summer: The busiest travel season for families!

  • Not to mention all the required summer activities now part of the school age experience: band camp, sports camps, and even academic camps so chose your destination carefully. You’ve spent a long winter dreaming of summer vacation, and you don’t want to spend it standing in long lines with big crowds or disappointed for not covering as much ground as you wanted. With a little strategic planning, the whole family can have a dream vacation. After all, who doesn’t want a summer vacation to remember all year long.
  •  Think about choosing a destination a little more “off the beaten path” with plenty of rewards. We’re partial to our neck of the woods, but there are many great “less” popular Florida beaches where you can enjoy quality family time creating memories while avoiding large crowds. Look for a family vacation home where the whole family can enjoy staying together, cooking meals, and relaxing in the comfort and privacy of your living room. Not to mention many hosts have the best insider info on favorite restaurants, hidden treasures, and “local” only knowledge.

The unique thing about the Central Florida East Coast? It’s a great place to “home base”. It’s a quick 90-minute drive to the Orlando area theme parks. Purchase a sun pass zip across the BeachLine spend the day with Mickey and be back to the beach for sunset.

  • With a little planning and use of the My Disney Experience app, you can plan a day trip, purchase park tickets and take advantage of missing the big crowd times. We’re also lucky to have several local activities the whole family will enjoy.
  • The Brevard Zoo, Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center are several of the activities we always recommend guests visit – no matter the age.

Creating memories is priceless.

Summer Travel Planning To Do List:

  • Sit down with your family and brainstorm all the places you want to visit.
  • Let the kids get involved and give input on things they would like to see and do.
  • List activities you’ve always wanted to try: snorkeling, SCUBA, fishing, kite surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, feed a stingray, touch a giraffe.
  • Spend time researching and learning before the trip, so you don’t miss out on local festivals, exhibitions, sporting events and shows.
  • Secure your lodging and transportation to guarantee your preferred dates for travel are available.

So when the inevitable? Comes up: R WE THERE YET MOM it will be asked with excitement and enthusiasm – Let’s get this vacation started! Send us a message and tell us how we can help your family plan the beach vacation of a lifetime. Oh! And by the way, when we say, family, we mean the whole family including your furry members. The four-legged kind.

Florida’s Beautiful! Wish You Were Here

Coconut Shrimp, Beers and Dogs

While enjoying a typical Florida Sunday afternoon in the Biergarten of a favorite local pub, Coasters, we met a couple visiting from the Orlando area. One of the things I love most about our beach town is how easy it is to strike up a conversation, which leads to more conversation and two hours later you’ve made new friends.

How Florida “Used” to Be

The conversation was mostly about our dogs, the Biergarten is pet friendly, and how Florida “used to be”. I’m always curious what attracts visitors to our quiet beach town.  Come to find out there are many people just like us who admire and enjoy the original hotels and motels  and accommodations spotted up and down the Southern Atlantic Coast: courtyard style rooms, ocean access, turquoise and pink color schemes, treasured original signs and ornamentation. Travel was slower and more about time with family, friends , the scenery and exploring.

Introductions and Attractions

Meet “Old Florida” it’s not all amusement parks and rides. Florida’s State Park system is the perfect opportunity to travel back in time and enjoy nature. The cottage is conveniently located within driving distance of some truly amazing Florida State Parks. Sebastian (the park I frequently mention) is just 8 miles south on HWY A1A. Many of the parks surround iconic pre- interstate Florida attractions. We are fortunate to have Cape Canaveral National Seashore (US National Park Service) about 45 minutes north on HWY A1A. The picturesque park offers secluded ocean with swimming, fishing, and wild- life watching.

Delighting Visitors Since 1947

Wish You Were Here is a self- guided road trip showcasing these attractions: Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park and Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife Preserve State Park have been Florida attractions since the 1940’s. The mermaids of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park have delighted visitors since 1947. Today, visitors still can witness the magic of the mermaids, take a river boat cruise, canoe, or kayak on the Weeki Wachee River.
